7 Fashion Rules Powerful Women Always Follow
The way you feel about yourself, is the way the world perceives you. Every little detail of our dress, jewelry, shoes, hair dictates how we feel. I recently read this book Design Your Life by Rachel Roy that inspired me to write this article on a very useful subject.
Understanding these basic rules will help you look and feel more powerful with not too much effort but just making the ring choices. So let get started.
Rule No 1. – Display your culture and your beliefs
There are many cultures and their traditions are a really interesting way of telling them apart. For example, Mexicans are known to wear a huge hat and colorful clothes versus the Japanese are known for their clean and minimalistic look.
In India there is a tradition of wearing intricate jewelry including a mangalsutra. It is a black beaded wedding chain that a married woman wears in her neck. I find such elements really interesting to adopt. This brings out your unique cultural backgrounds and demonstrates our true selves.
Rule No 2. – Choose Quality over Quantity
In this day and age of fast fashion, women always want more clothes. To satisfy this need for more clothing, they often choose lower quality pieces.
In my opinion, this is a huge mistake when you’re trying to create a wardrobe that speaks to you. Investing money in a handful of high-quality must-haves pieces like coats, trousers, shoes will uplift your entire look. As they say great things in life are worth waiting.
Believe me, once you have quality basics, you can pair them with normal day to day wear pieces and it all comes together beautifully.
Also, I have seen investing in nice clothing saves you a lot of money in the long run as you don’t have to buy the same things over and over again.
Rule No. 3 – Simple but Bold
Simplicity is the best when it comes to dressing up. When you wear too many pieces at once, it gets too much and people don’t know what to look at. So at a given time focus on few things, it could be your outfit or accessory.
Generally speaking the easy thumb rule is to wear only one piece that stands out at a given time. You could have nice bright handbag, or shoes that stand out. It will be classy and very elegant.
Rule No 4. – Use Accessories to Glamorize
Accessories are a key to making any outfit from boring to mundane. Accessorize according to your personality and not because everyone else is wearing them. Use interesting materials for your accessories that go well with your personality. You can always test and see what makes you feel fabulous from inside.
Rule No 5. – Be Confident in Your Selections
Break the fashion rules that say you can only wear a certain kind of a apparel with a certain kind of shoes. See what you like to wear and try different things with confidence. If its different, people are going to notice it.
Embrace all comments on your look with confidence and grace. Things may not go well all the time as expected, but hey, when you are trying to be yourself, it’s going to be a unique path of exploration and adventure.
Keep in mind all powerful women is comfortable in their own skin.
Rule No 6. – Know Your Own Style
This is an important thing before you start wearing clothes that imitate other people’s style, create a vision board on Pinterest or any other medium of your choice. Bring together styles that inspire you and looks that to dream about for yourself.
It doesn’t need to be expensive to look good, just compile what draws you, it can be the style of the outfit, the color or any particular element. Don’t hunt for the latest style, just look for timeless pieces that will make you feel comfortable and confident in your skin.
Rule No 7. – Dressing Your Age
This might be an element that we could forget sometimes. Everyday we see so many enticing and cool styles on the internet. But do keep in mind your age when you opt for certain looks.
It’s not that a 60-year-old can’t wear certain things. But keeping in mind your age will put things in place of whether it’s the right outfit for you at this time or not. Sometimes women try not to look to old, they think they are trying to look sexy and feminine but most of the times it ends up not only looking cheap but also age inappropriate.
Summary
I hope you found this article helpful and actionable. Make sure you share your thoughts in the comments below on how you implement these rules and also if you have anything else to add.
